WHAT YOU WILL DO AT BIHC

Reporting to the Lead - Culinary, the Head Steward will be the Head of  the Kitchen's Stewarding Team, and therefore responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, hygiene Standards and organization of the all the Training Kitchens and other related areas. You will enforce the highest possible cleanliness and hygiene standards in the whole food processing facilities as well as the operating equipment.

You will ensure that all cleaning tasks are performed according to standards and that all the institutions kitchen remain a safe and efficient workspace

Scope of the role:
  • Managing the BIHC Kitchen Steward Team
  • Allocating workload and schedules
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of duties of all stewards, kitchen facilities, and operations
  1. Supervise the sanitation, cleanliness, hygiene as well as the quality level of products and services.
  2. Ensure back of house areas are maintained to the highest cleanliness standards and cleaning schedules are followed and completed.
  3. Directs and assists stewards in order to make clean up more efficient.
  4. Assist Chefs and kitchen staff with various tasks as needed.
  5. Check more specifically the proper use of chemicals and washing detergents.
  6. Stock take of equipment and other items as required.
  7. Work with all departments to ensure items that are required for service are available when needed.
  8. Take all necessary actions to reduce breakage of China and Glass wares.
  9. Supervise stewards ability to follow loss prevention policies to prevent accidents and control costs.
    11. Any other duties as may be assigned by management.

  • Proven work experience as a Head Steward
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Management skills that help in overall management of the college kitchens
  • Communication skills and professional ethics that helps  promote good work relationships with colleagues and students

Education and Experience
  • A Diploma in hospitality  or related field with previous experiences with stewarding department within a hotel,
  • Two years relevant experience leading teams in a kitchen set up
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • A deep understanding of, commitment to and involvement in hospitality Industry
