VACANCY –Regional Information Manager and Data Analyst   
Kenya Red Cross Society is a leading humanitarian organization sustainably promoting the wellbeing, health and resilience of communities in Kenya. 
The  German Red Cross Society is looking for a qualified person to fill the position of: Regional Information and Data Analyst
Reporting to: Regional Representative GRC in Africa and the head of Anticipation Hub. Technical Line Management is Information Management and Digitalisation Lead in GRC HQ, Berlin                 
Location:  Nairobi (with frequent travel in the Region)  
Overall Purpose 
The purpose of the Information Manager and Data Analyst is to give IM support to the GRC in the region and to the Anticipation Hub at regional and global levels.   
Scope of the role: 
Main regional with focus in the Greater Horn of Africa, and secondary focus on specific countries as needed and agreed.  
Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Overall IM/Data support to the office and the region 
  • Support the development of a regional database (IGAD region) on anticipatory action, documenting, inter alia, activations, triggers/thresholds, frameworks, and roadmaps established by humanitarian and governmental actors across the region 
  • Identify, collect, harmonize, validate, analyze, update and visualize relevant data  
  • Ensure scientific rigor and quality control during the review process. Define and standardize key variables such as action typologies 
  • Ensure the structure of the database supports interoperability with other databases, regional or global knowledge platforms (e.g. East Africa Hazard Watch, AH, IGAD/ICPAC IM system) and ease for future expansion or modification  
  • Develop procedures for updates, validation and maintenance of the database 
  • Create dashboards, data visualizations and user-friendly interfaces 
  • Development of a user guide manual  
  • Present functionalities to stakeholders and integrate feedback  
  • Contribute to reports, summaries, analyses etc. deriver from the database content  
  • Explore and integrate, as far as possible, use of AI-enabled tools and processes for semi-automated data collection  
  • GIS and Disaster Risk Data Analysis in coordination with the GRC global IM and digitalization unit and Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in the field. 
  • Support general project/program development if required.   
  • Support the Anticipation Hub in other IM related task as  required 
  • Liaise and work with the Anticipation Hub regional coordinator based in the IFRC regional office in Nairobi  
Qualifications and Experience 
  • University Degree in Information Management, Data Science, GIS, Social Sciences, or a related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in in IM, data analysis, or digital systems in the international humanitarian/ NGO/Non-profit sector or Government related to DRM, Climate Science, Hydromet Science, Disaster Risk Financing and/or AA.  
  • Good understanding of anticipatory action (e.g. concept, actors). 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and managing databases or knowledge platforms.  
  • Proven capacity to work with diverse data sources and ensure scientific rigor.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Power BI, QGIS and/or ArcGIS, and at least one mobile data tool (KOBO, ODK, including xlsForms). familiarity with Python and/or R programming is a plus. 
  • Experience with AI/machine learning tools for information extraction, classification or natural language processing (desirable).  
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences. 
  • Strong training, facilitation, and mentoring skills.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement. Work proficiency in another regional language is an asset.
